Spring Wildflower Walk with Cynthia Wood

April 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

$10.00

Genial botanist and noted wildflower blogger Cynthia Wood will lead a walk along the QGs main trial around the two quarry pools through galleries of native plant communities.

Plants we may expect to find include Rue anemone, Shooting star, Pussytoes, Wild columbine, Dwarf larkspur, Wild geranium, Alumroot, Bluets, Dwarf crested iris, Golden ragwort, Native phlox, Mayapple, Solomon’s seal, Wild pink, Spring beauty, Foamflower, Mountain and Perfoliated bellworts, Heartleaf, Golden alexanders—and many others. All lead interesting lives.

In a year, more than 600 locally native plants may be found here. Due to the unusual variety of landforms and geology, this site is said to support the largest collection of native plants of any botanical garden in Virginia. Installation in June 2022 of a mile of deer fencing around the planted areas has made a notable positive difference.
